This breathtaking area is one of the most interesting and attractive to visitors. It includes two of Tanzania's most spectacular mountains: Kilimanjaro and Meru. Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa at 5895m but Mount Meru is too easily overlooked. This ancient volcanic mountain features grasslands and verdant forests and a trek to the summit is described as "exhilirating".
At the foot of majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, lie bustling towns like Moshi and Marangu where you may catch a glimpse of the colourful, village life. Arusha is also nearby and one of Tanzania's fastest growing towns. It is a great place to browse around and is surrounded by coffee, wheat and corn estates. Towards the north you will find authentic Maasai villages. Arusha has been called the safari capital of Tanzania as it is the gateway to the Serengeti, Lake Manyara, Tarangire and Arusha national parks.
