Basecamp Masai Mara – fittingly referred to as the ‘mother of all camps’ by our staff – is where our story started. Lovingly run by our Maasai staff, BCMM is as much a home as it is a tourism destination. Here guests become more than visitors, they become part of the Maasai community. We welcome you to join us around the fireplace, for story sharing and star gazing.

At Basecamp Masai Mara we offer twelve Double Riverside Tents, all built along the banks of the Talek River, the natural border to the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The dense riverbed foliage allows for maximum privacy and comfort, without compromising the view of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. With more than 286 identified bird species, you are certain to wake to a symphony of birdsong while staying at Basecamp Masai Mara.

All tents are fitted with bio-flush toilets, solar-heated safari showers, and a private balcony, were you have direct view of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The Family Riverside Tent is the perfect choice for larger groups, or for families travelling with children. The tent has two separate wings, each featuring a double bed with a shared bathroom area. Our Family Riverside Tent offers a larger deluxe balcony to give families or groups a chance to socialize in complete privacy.
